The 2008 season of the Texas Saltwater Series Tournament Trails ended with record numbers in the entire tournament series. 2009 looks to be bigger and better than ever.

                The Texas Trout Series sponsored by Cabela’s will kick off the season on January 24^th at Bluff’s Landing Marina. The format will be the same as the 2008 season with a guaranteed first place prize of $10,000. The second and final event of the trout season will take place in Port Aransas, TX on February 21st.

                The Malibu Texas Kayak Series sponsored by Cabela’s will add a fourth event to its 2009 schedule. This growing series will follow the Texas Redfish Series around the state.

                The Texas Kid’s Series sponsored by Cabela’s will once again be held in Port Lavaca, TX. This family event will be held on August 9^th at the Port Lavaca Lighthouse Beach.

                Finally, the Texas Redfish Series, the flagship of the Texas Saltwater Series, will have a few changes in the format which will be announced at a later time. “We have some exciting news for the Texas Redfish Series trail,” said tournament director Scot Simmons. “There are a few things in the works that we hope to have wrapped up by the end of the year.”

The Texas Saltwater Series Will Run for a Full Year Starting in January

In response to fans looking for more of the Texas Saltwater Series, the show will run for a full year from December 31, 2008 to December 23, 2009. The show will move from Thursdays to Wednesdays at 6:00 AM on Fox Sports Southwest or FSN SW. This program features fishing on the Texas coast for redfish, trout and other inshore species. Anglers from the Texas Saltwater Series Tournaments will demonstrate techniques that make them successful on the saltwater tours. The Texas Saltwater Series will fish in Sabine, South Padre Island, Galveston, Matagorda, Port Lavaca, Rockport, Port Aransas, Corpus Christi and the legendary Baffin Bay. Viewers will learn about new techniques and products from the show's host Scot Simmons and Jim Elrod as well as other Saltwater veterans.

The Texas Trout Series "sponsored by Cabela's, presented by Blue Wave Boats and Suzuki Marine" is a series of one day Speckled Trout tournaments with low entry fees and tournaments exclusive to the Texas coast. The series was such a success in 2006 it has doubled in size in 2007 and now we are seeing other trout tournaments duplicating the format. We will continue to remain on the cutting edge of trout tournaments while working to conserve our resources and make sure that Texas remains a trophy trout fishery for generations to come. The Texas Kids Series was created to introduce kid's to the world of fishing while adding a fun competitive environment to the event. Proceeds from the Texas Kid's Series will go the Texas Youth Outdoor Adventures. Texas Youth Outdoor Adventures (TYOA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to impacting young people’s lives through God’s great outdoors. TYOA organizes professionally guided hunting and fishing adventures for youth who are at-risk or physically challenged. These outdoor experiences teach self- esteem, respect, and responsibility in a safe healthy environment. Everyone is invited to attend. Kid's of all ages can compete in this event. Along with the other entrants, Children from the Medina Children's Home will be brought to the event and paired up with tournament anglers to help them learn about the outdoors. The 2008 event will be held on Sunday, June 29 in Port Lavaca, TX. Sign-Up will begin on April 15, 2008.

The Texas Kayak Series is the newest venture for Simrod Outdoors. After witnessing the eagerness of Kayakers to compete in a professional atmosphere in 2007, Simrod Outdoors has decided to expand the Texas Kayak Series to three events in 2008.
